44% of general practitioners refuse to become the doctor treating new patients according to a survey published by the consumer association UFC-Que Choisir. A behavior that understands very well Jean-Paul Hamon, president of the Federation of the doctors of France. On Europe 1, he explains that an overworked doctor is simply "dangerous for the patient".

INTERVIEW

Unlike nearly half of his colleagues who refuse new patients, Jean-Paul Hamon welcomes people he did not follow before. The president of the Federation of Doctors of France has even passed in his office Clamart "from 1,840 to 2,152 new patients". This does not prevent, on Europe 1, to understand the behavior of these generalists, denounced in a survey of consumer association UFC-Que Choisir which calls for emergency measures against deserts medical.

Overworked doctor is "a bad doctor"

To illustrate his remarks, Jean-Paul Hamon uses the drama of Mirepoix-sur-Tarn. "You do not go on a bridge for vehicles under 19 tonnes with a 50 tonne truck," he says. Well for general practitioners, it's the same way. "When you take 4,000 patients while you are organized to receive 2,000, it's dangerous for the patient," he warns. When a general practitioner has patients, "he must be able to give appointments within a reasonable time or ensure emergencies", details the President of the FMF. "When you see a doctor overwhelmed or tired, you will be treated by a bad doctor," worries even Jean-Paul Hamon.

The desire to "take out a revolver"

What can be done to stem a problem that affects departments like Charente or Seine-et-Marne, where the refusal rate is close to 80%? "We must reform the health system," simply pleads the president of the Federation of Doctors of France. Jean-Paul Hamon is in favor of a "global reform", which gives full powers to doctors rather than administrative in the sights of the generalist. "When I hear administrators say that emergencies are overwhelmed by liberal doctors, that we must make custody mandatory, I want to release my revolver," he is angry.

Jean-Paul Hamon also wants to make more attractive general medicine, "a great job has exercised". For that, it is necessary according to him "that the young people discover the liberal exercise during their studies, that they are no longer afraid to settle". But the cost of the consultation is a major drag in his eyes in this promotion. "At 25 euros the consultation, while the European average is 40 euros, how do you want to be attractive?", Finally asks the President of the FMF.
