As researchers and academics have been defending, History is written, fundamentally, from the documents . And the one that THE WORLD brings to light today for the first time has an incalculable historical value. The next day 20 will be 44 years of the death of Francisco Franco and until now the Spaniards had not had access to the content of their last wills. Much has been speculated, due to the lack of documentation proving it, about the supposed fortune that the Caudillo accumulated during the almost 40 years that he was in charge of the State headquarters. And it is true that this controversy does not end with the publication of his will. But there is no doubt that this document will serve to complement the valuable works of many historians. It would be desirable that, both individuals and, above all, the Government, make available to all Spaniards the files that now remain locked and closed .

The best way to help the understanding of history is to facilitate the work of those who write it and not politicizing the facts, with interested and sectarian laws of memory . Our newspaper contributes today to that purpose, which has been the same for 30 years: the tireless search for truth.
