Since 1959, many professions are prohibited to type 1 diabetics: firefighter, military, police ... The list is long. Hakaroa Vallé is himself a type 1 diabetic and wants to change the law. Before defending his project before the National Assembly, the high school student of 15 years undertook a crossing of France in running, cycling and scooter. He denounces the "aberrations of the system". On the occasion of Diabetes Day, he was the guest of Europe morning 1 at 6:40.

Being a type 1 diabetic has prevented many trades since 1959. Among them: airplane pilot, fireman or train driver. A petition was launched to change the law. On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, Hakaroa Vallé, a type 1 diabetic and at the initiative of this petition, was the guest of Matthieu Belliard at 6:40 am in the morning of Europe 1. The 15-year-old high school student denounces inconsistencies in legislation. "The technology that we benefit from to assist us in the face of the disease no longer justifies prohibiting the access of certain professions to diabetics," he explains.

To prove that diabetes is not a handicap, Hakaroa Vallé made a crossing of France, from north to south, running, cycling and scooter. "I wanted to prove that you can do sports even with diabetes, and it helps regulate your blood sugar levels," explains the boy. From this postulate he believes that access to prohibited trades are no longer legitimate.

Eight ministers met

Hakaroa Vallé also fought his fight with the National Assembly. In March 2019, he defended a bill. Since then, 565 deputies support him: "I miss him only 12. It was really very impressive, they were very attentive so it was really exceptional," adds the one who knows his diabetes for only three years.

He also met with eight ministers. The first of them was Christophe Castaner, who explained to the young man that the law could evolve on the police professions but only at the level of contractors. "The minister told me that there may be risks for the CRS because they are standing for hours, but I told him that I had run 24 hours in a row, so I was not risking anything." Christophe Castaner added that he would try to set up a study with doctors to change the situation of contractors.

Four million diabetics in France

The first student also met Emmanuel Macron and former Presidents, such as Nicolas Sarkozy and Valery Giscard d'Estaing. Theresa May, also a diabetic, responded to a letter from Hakaroa Vallé. "You can be diabetic and prime minister of a power like Britain, or professional footballer at Real Madrid like Nacho Fernandez, but you can not be a social security controller," sighs the boy.

In France, there are four million diabetics including 250,000 type 1.
