Natalie Dessay is a fan "always" of Claude Nougaro. Now far from the boards of the opera, she took the time to partner with the composer Yvan Cassar to deliver an album tribute to the singer, On the black screen of my sleepless nights .
"There are so many songs that I would have liked to put on this album"
"Claude Nougaro is a man who has magnified and sang the woman as a person, with a lot of tenderness and femininity," said Natalie Dessay, Thursday, in L'Equipée sauvage , on Europe 1. The former singer has always had a special love for the songwriter Toulouse, she had the chance to meet. For the selection of songs from her tribute album, she naturally turned to the titles she preferred to him. "It was very hard," she concealed, "there are so many titles that I would have liked to put on this album".
At the microphone of Europe 1, Natalie Dessay also explains that she had to do a lot of work on her voice for this record. "We had to unlearn how to sing," she says. "The body is trained for a certain gesture and it is necessary to 'train' the body to this gesture, to learn another", details the singer. In addition to the release of this album, Natalie Dessay is also touring all over France to sing Claude Nougaro on stage.
