Round trip to 785 steps of stone steps Kompira stone step marathon

The “Kompira Stone Step Marathon” was held at Kinpira Shrine in Kotohira-cho, Kagawa Prefecture, known as “Kompira-san”.

This event, which prays for health, is held every year. In fact, there were 785 men and women from the age of 3 to 87, gathering the same number of stone steps, starting at 10:00 in turn.

Participants ran up wearing matching yellow T-shirts, and many people started to walk out of breath when they reached over 300 steps. .

The fastest person was a man who finished in 13 minutes and 25 seconds. After that, when the participants came back one after another, shopkeepers and worshipers gathered along the road were greeted with applause.

A woman from Ehime Prefecture said, “I've been here for the health of the year. I think I'm ready for the Yokohama Marathon that will be held next month.”

The boy of a local fourth grader said, “I was tired of the last descent. I want to do my best because there is a tournament that runs the same course at school.”
