The 45th Deauville American Film Festival opened this Friday, with a preview screening of Woody Allen's new film "A Rainy Day in New York". A romantic comedy that will be released in France on September 18th.

"For a romantic comedy, it takes rain" likes to joke Woody Allen. So, for his new film, previewed this Friday at the 45th American Film Festival Deauville, he did not hesitate to put a lot.

"A rainy day in New York" tells the story of Ashleigh (played by Elle Fanning), a student at a small university dreaming of becoming a journalist. When she discovers an interview of her favorite director in a student newspaper, she offers her boyfriend, Gatsby (Timothée Chalamet), to go together to meet him in New York. Then will follow a series of adventures.

"New York is not the same anymore"

The film, which will not be released in the United States because of accusations of sexual abuse on Woody Allen, is also an opportunity for the 83-year-old American director to talk about a missing New York.

"Before, there were more restaurants, more shops ... Today they are empty because people buy online. You had these big yellow taxis, which are replaced by Uber ... There are bikes everywhere in the city ... New York is not the same anymore! "says the filmmaker.

Without being a major part of Woody Allen's filmography, "A Rainy Day in New York" is a nice romantic comedy, punctuated with always picturesque characters, as the director has accustomed us to. Fans will find their account. His detractors will pass their way. Released in theaters on September 18th.
