KHARTOUM (Reuters) - The third trial of ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Saturday over exhibits and money found at his residence began on Saturday in a court in Khartoum.

The court indicted Bashir on charges of illegal possession of foreign funds and illicit wealth.

The court judge, Sadiq Abdul Rahman al-Bashir, said: `` I accuse you of seizing on April 16, 2019 in your home amounts of 6.9 million euros and 351 thousand and 770 dollars and 5.7 million Sudanese pounds, which I obtained from an illegal source and acted illegally and received it illegally. Legitimate. "

For his part, Bashir's defense team considered him "not guilty". Bashir's lawyer said defense witnesses would attend the next hearing.

The judge rejected Bashir's request for financial guarantee.

During the trial, al-Bashir admitted that he had received money from foreign officials, but stressed that he had not acted personally or privately. He also confirmed that he had handed the RSF $ 5 million, noting that there were documents confirming this.

Al-Bashir's lawyer, Mohamed al-Hassan al-Amin, said in previous statements to Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath that the amount found in Bashir's possession came as a grant and was "within the framework of cooperation between presidents." The secretary also stressed that Bashir "acted in it and did not take a dollar from him."

Bashir's defense has filed a request with the court for his release on financial guarantee.
