Netflix released Martin Scorsese's new film, The Irishman , a major project for the online video giant, Wednesday, featuring Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel, and a computer-aided Robert de Niro.

The Irishman is inspired by Charles Brandt's book I Killed Jimmy Hoffa ( I Heard You Paint Houses ), written on the basis of interviews with Frank Sheeran, nicknamed The Irishman (The Irishman). The former henchman reports that he killed more than 25 people on the orders of mafia boss Russell Bufalino and boss of the truck drivers union, Jimmy Hoffa.
The trailer is centered around the first contact between Frank Sheeran, played by Robert de Niro, and Jimmy Hoffa, played by Al Pacino. This is the first time that the latter, a regular in gansgter films, directed by Martin Scorsese, while it is the ninth collaboration between Niro and Scorsese.
De Niro rejuvenated more than 30 years
For the occasion, the production used a process called "de-aging", which makes it possible to rejuvenate an actor or an actress. The effect is based on a technology developed by Industrial Light & Magic, the company created by George Lucas. The result is striking, especially for Robert de Niro, who appears rejuvenated more than 30 years.

The film fits in the vein of the gangster movies dear to Martin Scorsese, such as The Affranchis , Casino , or The Infiltrates , this time with a frame closer to facts and real characters. For his return to this genre, the Oscar winner for Les Infiltrés gathered around him several of his favorite actors, including Robert de Niro, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel.
Produced by Netflix, it will still be released in cinemas
The project took more than ten years to succeed and was rejected by several studios, mainly because of its cost, before Netflix decided to produce it. According to several American media, the budget would be more than 140 million dollars. The film will be shown for the first time at the opening of the New York Film Festival on September 27th. It is a choice for this festival, because the film is one of the most anticipated of the year. Netflix plans to release it in theaters by the end of the year, which will allow the film to be eligible for the Oscars.
