On May 19, 1989, the first all-Union beauty contest was held in the USSR. He was named "Miss USSR - 1989". The selection of candidates for the title of the first beauty of the country took place over two months, and the Russia Central Concert Hall was chosen as a platform for review. Famous cultural figures became members of the jury: Muslim Magomayev, Ilya Glazunov, Irina Skobtseva, Leonid Yakubovich and Ekaterina Maximova. The victory was won by 17-year-old Yulia Sukhanova.
