A resident of New Zealand during a walk with dogs on the river bank found strange traces. Experts who arrived at the scene determined that the fossilized prints belong to the bird from the Moa order. These birds were exterminated by the natives in the XVI century. Adults weighed up to 250 kg and were almost twice as tall as a human. According to scientists, the traces found were the first evidence that moa lived on the South Island of New Zealand.
