Close or not tight? Indonesia wants to review the announced closure of the Isle of Waran Komodo once again. The Southeast Asian Forest and Environment Ministry announced on Monday in the capital Jakarta that a final decision will be made at the earliest in July. Until then, experts from the government, scientists, environmentalists and tourism association will get a more accurate picture.

Last week, it was announced that Komodo 2020 would be closed to vacationers. On the island east of Bali are about 5000 Komodo Warane at home. The up to three meters long and more than 70 kg heavy animals are also called the "last dragons of the world". They have a reputation for being quite aggressive. Attacks on humans are rare. At present, about 10,000 visitors a month land on the island.

The central government in Jakarta clarified that the final decision was to close the Ministry of the Environment. "It's a complex issue, it can not be decided by the local government alone," a spokesman said. The provincial government wants to close the island to give the warans time to recover, as well as to plant new trees.
