Kendrick Lamar is the big favorite at the Grammy Awards - even though he did not release his own album in 2018. But Lamar was heavily involved in the soundtrack to the hit movie "Black Panther". Overall, the rapper from Los Angeles comes to eight nominations at the most important music awards.

For the first time ever, eight nominations were awarded in the genre-spanning categories - so far there were five each.

The albums of the year include rapper Cardi B, country musician Brandi Carlile, hip-hop star Drake, R & B singer HER, rapper / singer Post Malone, funk musician Janelle Monáe, country pop star Kacy Musgraves and the soundtrack to "Black Panther" nominated.

The nominations for the Grammys 2019 had actually already been announced on Wednesday. Because of the funeral service for the late former US President George HW Bush that had been postponed.
