A recent study by researchers at the University of Iowa found that eating fried foods, including chicken and fish, increases the risk of premature death.

Eating one or more fried foods every day increases the risk of death by 8 percent compared with other foods.

The study, published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), found strong links with fried chicken and fish, with more than 100,000 women between the ages of 50 and 79 years between 1993 and 1998.

Over an average of 18 years of follow-up, 31,558 women died. The causes of death in 9,320 women were related to heart problems, 8358 cancers and 13880 other causes.

"Repeated consumption of fried foods, especially fried chicken and fried fish, was associated with death rates associated with heart problems or other health conditions," the researchers conclude.

The researchers did not find a specific link between deaths from cancer and eating fried foods.
