Shyamalan superheroes, Maria Stewart and Asterix: the main movie premieres of the week

In mid-January, large foreign blockbusters return to domestic screens. The first of these was the thriller of M. Night Shyamalan “Glass”, which united the characters of his films “Invulnerable” and “Split”. Also, viewers will be able to see the adaptation of the story of the confrontation between Mary Stuart and Elizabeth I, a body-positive comedy with Jennifer Aniston, a romantic-philosophical film from the founder of The Educators, Hans Weingartner, a psychological drama from the Mexican film’s master Carlos Reigadas and the next animated adventures Askerk.

Glass

Due to the failure of the "Invulnerable" almost twenty years ago, M. Knight Shyamalan had to defer to plans to create his own comic-universe. In 2016, it turned out that the director did not give up on his intention - the thriller Split became the secret sequel to the 2000 tape. In The Glass, superman David Dunn (Bruce Willis), the genius terrorist Elijah "Mr. Glass" Price (Samuel L. Jackson) and the burdened 24 personalities Kevin "Horde" Crumb (James McAvoy), finally appear in one frame.

After the events shown in Split, several months passed. In his free time, Dunn patrols the streets of Philadelphia in search of Crumb, who kidnapped several more schoolgirls for the sake of his monstrous personality - the Beast. Soon, David finds Kevin, but at the climax, law enforcement officers and the psychiatrist Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) interfere in their fight. They imprison David and Kavin in a hospital prison where Price has been kept for the past 15 years. Staple will try to prove to all three that they are not superheroes, but ordinary people with delusions of grandeur.

"Two Queens" (Mary Queen of Scots)

The historical drama “Two Queens”, filmed according to the scenario of Bo Williamone’s “House of Cards” showrunner, became the debut of theater director Josie Rourke. The Golden Globe owner Sirsha Ronan and Oscar nominee Margot Robbie starred. Guy Pierce and David Tennant also took part in the shooting. The tape was based on the book of the British historian John Guy "My heart belongs to me."

The picture covers the six-year reign of Queen Mary of Scotland Stewart (Ronan), during which she tried to persuade her cousin Elizabeth I (Robbie) to appoint her heir to the English throne.

"Dumplin" (Dumplin ')

The creators of this week’s main comedy, the “Pyshka” bodipository tape, decided to ridicule the toxic format of women's beauty contests. The director's chair was taken by Anne Fletcher, who in 2006 debuted with the iconic dance drama "Step Forward", and later delved into the ingenuous romcoms ("27 Weddings", "Offer"). The script for the film is based on the eponymous novel by American writer Julie Murphy, who in 2015 became the bestseller of The New York Times.

According to the plot, the fat girl Willode Dixon (Daniel MacDonald) is trying to resist the obsessed mother’s established standards of appearance (Jennifer Aniston), who nicknamed her child “Pyshka”. The teenager sends an application to a beauty contest, which is supervised by the parent. According to the laws of the genre, Willowin has to find love and regain self-confidence.

"Asterix and the Secret Potion" (Astérix: Le secret de la potion magique)

The cartoon "Asterix and the Secret Potion" became the tenth part of the animated franchise about the adventures of the Gallic warriors Asterix and Obelix. Like the Twelve Exploits of Asterix in 1976, the tape does not retell one of the comics of Albert Uderzo and Rene Goscinny, but offers the viewers a completely original story. It makes sense to look at the picture with the original voice acting - in the “Secret Potion”, the voice of Asterix is not told by Roger Karel (in August, the actor turned 91), but by Christian Clavier, who played this role in those very first two films.

This time, the famous couple is sent across the whole of Gaul in search of a new druid for their village - the old one has broken his leg and is preparing to transfer the powers to the heir. In their absence, the Romans attack the settlement, and the evil wizard attempts to steal the recipe for a magic potion that gives the Gauls superpowers.

"Romance" 303 "(303)

"Antitinderovskim" road movie "Romance" 303 "Austrian Hans Weingartner (" White Noise "," Pupils ") broke a seven-year silence. However, the idea of the film came from Weingartner back in 2001, when the director set off on a similar journey as part of a press tour in support of White Noise. At the Berlin Film Festival in 2018, Romantics took part in the Generation 14+ program.

In the story, a 24-year-old biology student (Mala Emde) finds out about her pregnancy and travels from Germany to Portugal at a camper to meet with the father of the child. Along the way, she picks up a political student (Anton Speaker), who travels to Spain to meet her biological father. In the course of chatter, literally about everything, the characters get closer and fall in love with each other.

"Our time" (Nuestro tiempo)

“Our Time” is the fifth full-length film of the one-on-one representative of the third wave of Mexican cinema, Carlos Reigadas, who previously received Cannes Film Festival awards several times. The tape premiered at the 75th Venice Festival, where it was selected for the main competition. The main roles in the film - a married couple - were played by the director himself and his wife.

Poet Juan (Reigadas) and his wife Esther (Natalia Lopez) breed bulls on their own ranches in the Mexican outback and ignore traditional family values - they are in a free relationship. Once a rancher arrives at the ranch from the USA named Phil (Phil Burgers). Esther penetrates to the guest sympathy, growing into a passion, and Juan is becoming increasingly difficult to restrain jealousy.
