In the Rhine port of Cologne-Niehl a passenger ship has set. As the responsible water police announced in Duisburg, a skipper noticed when driving by, that the moored event ship had a clear page.

The alarmed fire brigade could not prevent the 63-meter-long ship continued to run and ultimately sank. It is now about five meters deep, parts of the structures protrude from the water.

Two on-board crew members were able to leave the sinking ship in time and remained unhurt. The fire department installed a mobile oil barrier to catch potentially leaking supplies.

According to initial findings, the ship had caught in winter at low tide at the stern in a sheet pile wall, so that it ran with increasing water through the vents. According to the police, there is no danger to Rhine navigation.
