Munich was in a state of emergency for more than two weeks. In particular, the residents around the Oktoberfest grounds on the Munich Theresienwiese should be happy when the largest folk festival in the world ends. At 11.30 pm the big festival halls are over.

For many celebrities and "Adabeis" (would-be celebrities) the Oktoberfest is a must. Ex-US President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary also celebrated in Munich on the final weekend.

16 days good mood: The Oktoberfest in pictures

As usual, the organizers drew a positive conclusion at the end of the Oktoberfest. According to the festival management, around 6.3 million guests came - that was around 100,000 more visitors than in 2017, although the festival was two days shorter this time. Despite the increased number of visitors, the number of crimes fell by almost nine percent.

The police reported fewer sexual offenses, fewer pickpocketing and fewer pitch bangers, but more were injured. A death after a punch in front of a tent overshadowed the party - but it had been a very tragic case, said the press secretary of the Munich police, Marcus da Gloria Martins.

"It was a Superwiesn," said the second mayor Josef Schmid (CSU), who also acts as "Wiesn boss". The measure cost this year up to 11.50 euros, but that did not stop the guests from drinking. As in the previous year, 7.5 million liters of beer were served.

The restaurateurs sold but more food and soft drinks. According to first estimates, there are about ten percent growth, said Schmid. This fits in with the slightly changed visitor structure: more families have come - and also the generation 60 plus have celebrated more.
