The luxury hotel Dusit in the Kenyan capital Nairobi has been shaken by violence. Eyewitnesses reported a violent explosion and gunfire. It is unclear whether it was a robbery or an attack with a political background. The police initially confirmed only that there was an "incident" and she was in action.

"It was a bomb, a lot of fire is being fired," said one person working in the Dusit Hotel Complex offices. The explosion was so strong that AFP said it was still around five kilometers from the hotel. The luxury hotel is located near the Westgate shopping center, where at least 67 people died in a terrorist attack in 2013.

An AFP reporter reported that gunmen and security forces were firing. Confirmation for this information does not exist so far. Several cars around the complex were on fire. Injured people were carried out of the building.

Many people fled the area, some were slightly injured.
