The Hanover district court has convicted a young man of murder. The 18-year-old had run over and killed an 82-year-old last summer. He had raced through Hanover's shopping mall while fleeing the police with a stolen sports car.

The racer was sentenced, among other things, for murder to eight years of juvenile punishment, said a spokesman for the district court. First, the young man is served for one and a half years in a juvenile institution, then he should make an alcohol withdrawal in the penal enforcement.

At the start of the trial, the youth chamber had initially excluded the public for the entire trial. The defendant has a personality disorder with depressive and suicidal behavior - it is to be feared that his condition would be massively worsened, listeners should pursue the process, said the chairman judge Stefan gap.

The racer himself has only a fragmentary memory of the event, said the court spokesman. The 18-year-old is said to have stolen the car drunk at the end of June and fled with a 17-year-old friend.

When he got into a police check, the man raced off and collided with the 82-year-old through Hanover's pedestrian zone near the main train station. The senior died despite first aid from police.
