Greifswald: Protection of the Constitution targets two fraternities

The constitutional protection of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has targeted the two Burschenschaften Rugia and Markomannia Aachen in Greifswald and thus reacts to results of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV).

The office sees the fraternity Rugia as a grouping with "right-wing extremist relations," as the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) reports.

According to the report, the Burschenschaft Rugia is said to be one of the extremist right-wing extremists of the scene and largely reject political and social conditions in Germany. The Markomania Aachen is said to have published contributions in social media that read like a "glorification of militarism and Hitler's Wehrmacht", it says in the NDR report.

An AfD member of parliament as well as three AfD members of the state parliament should also get involved in the fraternities, according to NDR. In the rooms of the Burschenschaften also the national association of the boys alternative (JA) should have met. The two fraternities are rather small, no more than 30 active members should get involved there.

The Ministry of the Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern confirmed to the SPIEGEL that officials in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern determine after an appraisal of the BfV and that there are contacts of the AFD grouping of the wing as well as the boys alternative to the Burschenschaften.
