Benedict Cumberbatch will star in a British TV thriller about Brexit. The Sherlock Holmes actor will feature in Brexit: The Uncivil War the leader of the Vote Leave campaign, Dominic Cummings, considered one of the key figures behind Brexit. The focus of the film is the controversial strategy with which the EU opponents were able to win the referendum in 2016.

The little-known in the public Cummings once worked as a political advisor of eurosceptic parliamentarians. He then led the campaign "Vote Leave", which was campaigning for a Brexit.

Cummings is credited with a significant share in the success of EU opponents. Among other things, he relied on a data-driven social network campaign rather than traditional campaigning methods. Last July, Vote Leave was fined for misleading financial management.

To embody Cumming and see the world through his eyes was a challenge, Cumberbatch explained. Cummings was "far from me in many ways". The 42-year-old actor ("Doctor Strange", "The Imitation Game - A Top Secret Life") had campaigned for his country to remain in the EU.

"Brexit: The Uncivil War" will be screened on UK channel Channel 4 on January 7, 2019 - the day parliamentarians return from the Christmas break to Westminster. A week later, there will be a decisive vote on Brexit.
