CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt won the 2019 African Cup of Nations, which was withdrawn from Cameroon last month.

The Egyptian Federation wrote in its official account on the social networking site "Facebook": "Officially .. Egypt wins the organization of the 2019 African Nations Championship."

Egypt won 16 votes to one against South Africa, with one abstention.

According to the official MENA news agency, the meeting of the Executive Committee "witnessed the presence of 20 members with the absence of two members, where the representative of the State of Angola apologized for attendance because of the conditions of his illness and the other was stopped."

"We are confident that we will get 16 out of 18 votes, we will meet with the Egyptian Federation and we will set up a committee to prepare for the tournament in order to make the Egyptian people happy," Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Subhi said in televised remarks.

Members of the Executive Committee were due to vote in Dakar on Wednesday but the vote was presented 24 hours ago, and Egypt outperformed its only rival South Africa.

Egypt and South Africa are the only ones to bid for the tournament, rather than Cameroon, whose rights were withdrawn before the end of last year.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13.
