A study by researchers at the University of Massachusetts of America that eating strawberries a day helps reduce harmful inflammation in the colon, which affects the intestines.

The results of the study were presented to the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston.

Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are usually associated with severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue and weight loss. The disease may cause weakness and sometimes life-threatening complications, according to Al-Arabiya.

The team noted that the decrease in inflammation in the sample studied was not the only benefit of strawberries. Colon infections often affect the structure of the intestinal bacteria, increase the formation of harmful intestinal bacteria, and reduce the proportion of beneficial intestinal bacteria. The researchers noted that strawberries overcame this condition, led to an increase in the formation of beneficial intestinal bacteria, and reduced the proportion of harmful bacteria in the intestine, which led to regularity of metabolism and reduced colon inflammation.

The team pointed out that the results of the study can be tested on patients with bowel inflammation, giving them three quarters of a cup of strawberries a day, to promote the health of the digestive system.
