In September a 54-year-old raced in a crowd in the Chinese province of Hunan in a four-wheel drive vehicle. He killed 15 people and injured another 43. After the collision, he continued his attack in the city of Hengyang with a shovel and a knife.

Now the attacker in China has been sentenced to death. As the state news agency Xinhua reported, the 54-year-old had several criminal records, including drug trafficking and arson.

China's cities are considered safe by international comparison. Nevertheless, there are always reports of acts of violence such as bombings, arson and knife attacks. Often, personal feuds or psychological problems of the perpetrators are mentioned as a reason for attacks. Occasionally, attacks have been attributed to militant separatists.
