Because of bomb threats at thousands of schools, a 19-year-old has been sentenced to three years in prison. His mass e-mails had led to the evacuation of more than 400 schools in the UK. The young man had been accused of extortion, among other things.

The Briton had called, inter alia, at the airport police in San Francisco. He claimed that his daughter had been taken hostage during a flight to the United States. The call triggered a major deployment.

"You played cat and mouse with the authorities," said the judge in Luton north of London. He accused the 19-year-old to have a "perverted sense of fun" and to have carried out his actions in full knowledge of the consequences.
