Perhaps the best description of the movie Galveston which is the name of a city in Texas is: Patchwork. Where weaknesses are seen against which strong elements or used to strengthen the text, the film aware of the representative staff and output that the text on paper need to be saved after changes to the original text.

This theory may be supported by the news that the film's author Nick Pizzolato, who is also the author of the original adaptation of this work, has put his name in the quotation box after many additions by French star Melanie Laurent and French actress Foster and Eil Fanning The text quoted, which led to a complete change of vision of Pizzolato. The two sides collided and controlled the producers of the film. They sided with the director they described as the most cinematic. Pizzolato withdrew and called for a pseudonym, Jim Hammett, who had no wikipedia page or the famous IMDB and had what he wanted.

Trap

The film begins in 1988, and Roy (Foster) is a criminal working for a gang leader named Stan (Bo Brzez). Roy, who has lung cancer, comes out of the clinic angry after the doctor tells him to get sick, but without waiting for any further details about the diagnosis.

It is not clear if the gang leader feels threatened, because Roy had been dating his girlfriend earlier, or because Roy is not competent enough, but the leader decides to get rid of Roy by sending him on a mission, but ask him not to carry his weapon! There is no reason for this except that the leader plans to kill his leg in an ambush.

This is exactly what happens, but Roy is smarter not to carry his weapon, go to the task and fight fiercely and when he kills his colleague, eliminates the enemy from his father, and when he goes out find a girl strapped to the chair, decides to edit and take it with him. The girl is called Raquel (Fanning) and loves to be called Rocky. It turns out that she is a saleswoman. During her escape, Rocky asks Roy to stop at her old house, enter it and then hear a gunshot and come out with a little girl (twin Tinsley and Aniston Price, who played the heroine's sister) She says she is her sister and saves her from the violence of the adoptive child's father. Roy completes his way to Galveston, where they live with the abducted girl in a small hotel until they manage. For example, cliches emerge as an attempt by Rocky to lure Roy into her body, rejecting that temptation without explaining why he refuses, whether he is a decent person or because he wants to help her leave this path, or that he protects himself.

A repentant gang man

We watched a lot of movies and serials about a repentant bandit looking for salvation, until the person became a "cliché" too. Roy's story is the story of the film itself, where he tells from his point of view is not the best elements of the film, but the least interesting, and has no weight. He is sick and says he is struggling with death and his intentions are unclear, and it seems that all his goal is to rid Rocky of her fate. We know nothing about him to care about him. On the other hand, the character of Rocky vague and interesting, is it kidnapped or saved the child? What is the secret of a shot? These are all details that will be revealed in the middle part of the film, but Laurent Roque is nevertheless neglected and goes to Roy. Also in the middle of the film, Loran's touches are more apparent by making the film better, as it is well-known to the viewers' expectations. For example, when expectations go that this is a road movie, that is, all events occur as the characters move from the place of escape to the place of salvation, Laurent contrasts to settle her characters at the Galveston Hotel.

In the hotel When the viewer thinks Roy's relationship with Rocky will go towards romance, especially after asking her to stay in his room for reasons not related to her profession, Laurent and Fanning are pushing in another direction we do not need to reveal details. Galveston mentions another 1977 film, Julia, who does the same thing - leaving the most interesting character and focusing on others to tell the story; many important details are lost.

Partial quality

Laurent is the French actress who was best known for her role as an avant-garde actor in the 2009 Inglourious Bastards film of Quentin Tarantino. Enemy in 2013, and this year in Operation Finale proved to have a cinematic vision that deserves attention through her previous film Breathe in 2014, This. "Galveston" is a fairly good film despite his release from Laurent's control in several parts.

The final scene of the film moves 20 years forward. We see Roy at Galveston during Hurricane Ike in 2008. We do not want to reveal more details for those interested in exploring the film, but we say that this is a much better part of the entire film, In the tone and story, as if we are watching another film, because it moved from the film of ordinary crime to a partial representation of a completely different story interspersed with a bitter reality with a kind of surreal imagination, and once the viewer immersed and longing for more, the film abruptly ends, Galveston »A Better Film.

Laurent enjoys a lot of confidence with the camera, and the film looks as if she is not committed to the text. There are two True Action detective sequences (the ambush of the beginning and the scene of Roy's escape from an ambush in the end) portrayed by Laurent in one shot without any pieces by Paul Greengrass in Jesse Bourne . There are dialogue shots in which Lauren leaves the camera on the interlocutors without focusing on one of them, and here comes the role of actors in creating a relationship of harmony with each other, in the manner of Richard Lincliter experimental in the trilogy «Befor». The film includes beautiful panoramic photos of a beach (also found in the previously mentioned Breathe), framed and illuminated with attractive colors, beautiful and strikingly vibrating, not all of which are consistent with the tone of the dark film. Foster, who performed at least in the film No Leave Trace earlier this year, as well as Fang, who gave her character more than just a typical hue seller.
