The Translation Challenge project, one of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum's global initiatives, is competing globally for the WSIS Prize 2019 in the category of "Cultural Diversity, Cultural Identity, Language Diversity and Local Content."

A number of projects from various countries around the world are competing for the winners of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which will be held from 8 to 12 April in Geneva, Switzerland.

The award aims at honoring the best projects and programs around the world that have used the modern means of communication and information technology, in cooperation with a number of organizations of the United Nations and the International Telecommunication Union.

In September 2017, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the "Challenge of Translation" initiative, calling on all interested people, professionals and professionals to contribute to the translation of 11 million words. Mathematics, science, physics, chemistry and biology, and produced it in 5000 educational videos available to Arab students from kindergarten to the 12th grade. The challenge was achieved within one year of its launch with the participation of hundreds of Arab volunteers from different disciplines. Al-Ali called on everyone to participate and vote for the translation challenge initiative.

The theme of "Cultural Diversity, Cultural Identity, Language Diversity and Local Content" is concerned with the preservation of cultural and linguistic identity, which is the aim of the "Translation Challenge" Project, the largest project of its kind in the Arab world. 11 million words were translated into science and math subjects for Arab students from kindergartens Up to the 12th grade, in one year, with the participation of hundreds of Arab volunteers from different disciplines, and the release of 5,000 educational videos available free of charge on the educational platform of the school and making it available to more than 50 million Arab students.

The United Nations World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) has 18 different categories in capacity building, enabling environment, ICT applications, international and regional cooperation, cultural diversity, cultural identity, linguistic diversity and local content. The award has seen in its past version of 2018, the participation of more than 2500 projects from more than 150 countries.
