For customers of the crane airline, flying is more expensive: "By at least from 2019" would the "significantly increased fuel costs" lead to higher ticket prices, announced Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr on Tuesday. This year alone, the company expects cost increases of more than one billion euros due to fuel costs and special charges due to flight cancellations and delays. In the coming year, the additional increase in fuel costs will amount to 900 million euros.

In the first nine months of the year, the net profit of Lufthansa fell by six percent year on year to 1.74 billion euros, as the company announced. In addition to the high fuel costs and the costs due to flight cancellations and delays, the integration costs of Air Berlin at the low-cost subsidiary Eurowings also hit the books. The summer quarter is the most important source of income for airlines.

At Lufthansa, this year already 18,000 flights have failed, more than 60 per day, as recently said board member Harry Hohmeister. In addition, there were many delays. Lufthansa blames most of the blame on air traffic control, security controls and baggage handling.
