A French unemployed young man got a job after an online video appeared with French President Emmanuel Macaron informing him that all he needed to do was to cross the road and ask.

But 25-year-old Jonathon Jahan did not cross the road but was contacted by a temporary employment agency and offered to work as a bus driver.

"I am happy that I will work on something I love," said Jahan, who studied gardening and who for months has been looking for a job in his field. The channel said it had rejected 20 more offers.

The young man's reputation for speaking with Macron during an open day at the Elysee Palace on September 15 had the effect of magic on him, and on the president himself, whose ratings have fallen to less than 30 percent, the lowest since his election.

The video sparked heated reactions on the Internet and in the media about the president's lack of politeness and questions about whether he was right to point out a disparity between the 9 percent unemployment rate and the thousands of vacancies.

"In the hotels, cafes, restaurants and even construction sector, everywhere I go, people tell me they are looking for employment," the 40-year-old president told Jahan.

"If I cross the road, I'll find something for you, they want people willing to work."

After the dialogue, videos were posted on social networking sites showing people crossing the road looking for a job. Some of them did not smile, and some found fame and fortune.
