A major department store has decided to make a full-scale entry into the "e-sports" business, in which competitive games are played.

J. Front Retailing, which owns Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Stores, will acquire XENOZ, a Kawasaki-based company that manages professional esports teams and events.

At the end of next month, we will acquire more than 50% of the entire stock of XENOZ and make it a subsidiary, and the acquisition will cost less than 1 billion yen.

In the future, we aim to hold esports events at department stores and commercial facilities under our umbrella, and to operate training grounds and other related facilities.

The business environment in the domestic department store industry is becoming increasingly severe, and as J. Front, we will enter fields where growth is expected, cultivate them as new revenue sources, and increase contact with the younger generation who are interested in e-sports. , with the aim of attracting new customers.
