Last month's sales at major supermarkets nationwide were 1.1147 trillion yen, an increase of 1.8% compared to the same month of the previous year when compared to existing stores, the first increase in two months.

Despite the spread of the new coronavirus, there were no restrictions on movement, and sales of leisure goods and cosmetics increased.

On the other hand, regarding the impact of recent price hikes, the "Japan Chain Stores Association" said, "Although there is a certain amount of progress in passing on the price of foodstuffs, there are also restraints on purchases, and the sales amount has decreased compared to the previous year. There is also a movement to choose private brands for products whose prices are rising."
