Today (23rd), the won-dollar exchange rate soared and recorded 1,345 won.

In the morning, even the president said that he would manage the situation, but it went down a little, then rose again in the afternoon, and again this year's high.

Reporter Im Tae-woo reports.

Today's dollar price fluctuated sharply right after the market opened at 9 am.

It broke through 1,345 won in 5 minutes, and then fell close to 10 won again an hour later.

The president's remarks had an impact.

[President Yoon Seok-yeol: I think you are worried about the exchange rate that has soared to 1,340 won now.

To ensure that the currency situation of a strong dollar and a weak won does not negatively affect our market...

About 20 minutes later, the foreign exchange authorities also added strength by saying that they would look to see if there were any speculative factors outside the country.

So-called verbal intervention, but the effect was so far.

The exchange rate lifted its head again in the afternoon and closed at 1,345.5 won, up more than 5 won from yesterday, breaking a new high this year for three days in a row.

This is the highest point in over 13 years, and the gap has narrowed to 10 won from the 2009 global crisis, which once soared to 1,357 won.

It is evaluated that the intervention of the authorities cannot calm the situation outside the country.

The US continues to tighten interest rates, and the recent surge in natural gas prices has raised concerns that the European economy will get worse, causing all currencies except the dollar to depreciate.

[Moon Jeong-hee / Senior Deputy General Manager of Kookmin Bank: The euro exchange rate has broken at $1.0 now, but it is the first time since 2001.

Due to the strong dollar and weak euro, in addition to anxiety about the global economy...

.]

The Jackson Hole meeting, held once a year by the US Central Bank, starts the day after tomorrow, and the current economic situation will determine the flow of the exchange rate.
