“I emphasize that the transfer of payments for gas into the national currency on the Russian side is logical and caused by objective reasons - the desire to receive payment for the delivered goods with a 100% guarantee,” he wrote in an article for the Energy Policy magazine.

Novak noted that for buyers, the terms of payment remain as comfortable as possible.

“Several buyers have already agreed with the transfer of gas payments into rubles, we are waiting for a decision from other importers,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.

On March 31, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on gas trade with unfriendly countries. 

According to him, in order for Western countries to be able to purchase gas from Russia, they must open accounts in Russian banks.
