Newcomers Brentford FC got off to a perfect start to their debut season in the English Premier League.

The newcomer defeated Arsenal 2-0 (1-0) in the opening game of the English soccer championship on Friday evening.

Sergi Canos put Brentford in the lead in the 22nd minute and was allowed to celebrate the club's first goal in the House of Lords.

Christian Nörgaard made everything clear in the 73rd minute.

For Arsenal and coach Mikel Arteta, the false start gives rise to fears of another difficult season like last year, when the Londoners only finished eighth.

Nübel beaten, Volland forgives

Coach Niko Kovac and AS Monaco also failed the dress rehearsal for the playoff games for the Champions League entry.

Last year's third in the French league lost 1-0 (0-1) at FC Lorient on Friday evening and only had one point on the account after the second match day.

The Nigerian Terem Moffi scored the winning goal for the hosts with a penalty in the 31st minute when he defeated Monaco goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.

Shortly before that, the German international Kevin Volland had given a big chance for the Monegasque.

Coach Kovac spared top striker Wissam Ben Yedder for the first leg for the place in the premier class against Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday.

After the 1-1 draw against Nantes at the start of the season, Monaco is now back in the league basement for the time being.
