The Scandinavian football world is worried about Swedish national player Kristoffer Olsson, who suddenly fell seriously ill.
The professional from the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland lost consciousness at home a week ago and was then taken to Aarhus University Hospital.
The 28-year-old is still lying there and is being artificially ventilated, as his club announced.
Olsson apparently suffers from an acute brain disease.
Medical experts are therefore working hard to make a diagnosis and find the right treatment method.
The club emphasized that the illness was not due to self-inflicted injuries or external factors.
The Swedish Football Association also released a short statement that said, among other things: "The entire Swedish football family is thinking of you and hopes that you will feel well again soon."
Midtjylland said it would provide further information following the diagnosis.
Midtjylland further wrote that it was "forced" to publish Olsson's condition because rumors about his absence from the team had increased.
The midfielder is one of the leading players at the Danish top club.
Olsson played his last competitive game in the Danish league before the winter break on December 4th, and the regular player was already missing from the squad at the start of the second half of the season on February 18th.
Olsson was trained at Arsenal
The midfielder went through Arsenal's youth academy but was only used once by the professionals.
In 2014 he moved to FC Midtjylland for the first time and became Danish champions there.
After stints at AIK Solna, FK Krasnador and RSC Anderlecht, he returned to Midjyttland last summer for a fee of 2.8 million euros.
He has so far played 47 international matches for the Swedish national team.
He was a regular for the Swedes at the 2021 European Championships, and most recently he often acted as a joker.
