18 cases of Corona virus were recorded in the English Premier League

Today, the English Premier League Football League announced that 18 players and club staff members have been infected with the new Corona virus, the highest number since the start of the weekly checks.

The match that had been scheduled between Everton and Manchester City was postponed on Monday due to several injuries in the latter's ranks.

"The Premier League confirms that between Monday, December 21 and Sunday, December 27, 1,479 players and employees were tested for COVID-19. Of these, 18 positive samples came. Players or club employees who were infected will isolate themselves for 10 days," a statement read.

This number exceeded the highest number (16) recorded between the ninth and fifteenth of last November.

Despite the registration of a record, the seven matches scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in the league will be held as scheduled.

On Christmas Day, City announced that four members of the club were infected with the virus, defender Kyle Walker and Brazilian striker Gabriel Gesos, in addition to two team workers, before new cases were discovered on Monday without revealing the identities of the injured.

As a result, the club closed its training center for an "indefinite period", with players and staff at the club subjecting to more tests before reopening it.

City is scheduled to visit Chelsea next Sunday in the seventeenth stage and Manchester United on the sixth of next month in the League Cup semi-finals.

It is the second time that a game in the Premier League has been postponed this season due to "Covid-19", after the meeting between Aston Villa and Newcastle on the fourth of this month due to injuries in the ranks of the latter.

Southampton revealed the absence of his Austrian coach Ralph Hasenhotel for a meeting this evening in front of his guest West Ham, because one of his family members was infected with the virus.
