Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has announced a donation of one million Swiss francs (1 million US dollars) to his poor wife, Mercka, in his country, which suffers from the consequences of the emerging Corona virus.

"It is a difficult time for all of us and we should not leave anyone alone," said Federer, 38, the holder of the record number of titles in Grand Slam tournaments (20). A message he posted in French, English and German via his Instagram account.

As of Wednesday, more than ten thousand new cases of Corona virus had been recorded in Switzerland, which resulted in the death of about 150 people.

Federer added: "Our contribution is only the beginning, we hope others will join us in helping more needy families, together, we can overcome this crisis! Keep your health."

The former world number one and the current fourth, which is considered one of the highest paid athletes in the world, did not specify that the American magazine "Forbes" estimated its revenues at 93.4 million dollars in 2019, the form that this gift will take.

Since Friday, the Swiss government has tightened its measures to curb the spread of the epidemic, and has prohibited gatherings of more than five people, while anyone standing less than two meters from others faces the risk of fine.
