  Dong Shuzhen was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and her family was poor since she was a child. "When I was young, I experienced a lot of hardships. I am successful now because I never gave up studying.   Later, Dong Shuzhen started a business and became rich. When she was 19 years old, she paired up to sponsor three orphans to go to school. Later, she also started to rescue stray dogs. Since 2003, Dong Shuzhen has been supporting poor out-of-school children in Jiangxi. Over the past 21 years, Dong Shuzhen has dedicated all her entrepreneurial income to charity. She has donated more than 90 million yuan in 14 provinces including Jiangxi, Sichuan, Henan, Anhui, and Shanghai, and has helped needy students with more than 1.6 million yuan.   In 2016, Dong Shuzhen got lung cancer. In 2020, Dong Shuzhen donated money to establish the "Dong Mama Fund" to help poor college students. She said that the wealth gained from society must be returned to society, so that even if Mother Dong is gone in the future, the love of the "Mother Dong Fund" will continue.

  In recent years, Dong Shuzhen has spent a long time in mainland China every year, visiting remote mountain villages in the north and south of the Yangtze River, communicating face-to-face with the sponsored students, and answering questions.
