UEFA expelled Manchester City from the Champions League for the next two seasons and imposed a fine on the club of 30 million euros, several British media reported Friday. According to the same sources, the severe punishment is due to the breach of the rules of the financial Fair Play and the tricks that the City used in the last courses to mask it.

According to an investigation published by the German magazine 'Der Spiegel' in November 2018, Manchester City inflated its sponsorship income through false documents, when it submitted its application to fulfill the Financial Fair Play. The UEFA Financial Control Unit (CFCB) considered Friday that the investigation was accurate and that the practices carried out by the English entity were inadmissible.

The emails and documents revealed by 'Der Spiegel' showed how the owner of the City, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan , Sheikh of Abu Dhabi, directly financed the club with almost 60 million pounds annually despite the fact that the money was trying to dress as a sponsor of the country's airline, Etihad Airlines. In one of the emails it was clear that the airline only contributed eight million and that the rest, 59.5 came from Mansour's own company, Abu Dhabi United Group.
