FC Bayern Munich will face Arsenal FC in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund's opponent is Atlético Madrid.

Both German teams have home advantage in the second leg.

The pairings were drawn at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

Former Chelsea professional John Obi Mikel, who won the Champions League in 2012, drew the lottery balls.

“The most important thing for us was: We wanted to have an away game first,” says BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke on “Sky”.

In the semi-finals, BVB would face Paris Saint-Germain or FC Barcelona.

There were already two duels with PSG in the preliminary round, one of which was lost and one ended in a draw.

A new edition of the 2013 German final is possible

The fourth pairing is Real Madrid against Manchester City, the winners of the last two seasons.

The winner would be FC Bayern's semi-final opponent, who will play Arsenal for the first time since the 2017/2018 season.

Back then, Munich won easily, both duels ended 5-1.

In the semi-finals, both Bundesliga teams would play in their own stadium in the first leg.

A German final between the two Bundesliga heavyweights in London, like in 2013, is possible thanks to the draw.

“That would be a cool thing, against Bayern at Wembley again as revenge,” said Watzke on Sky.

Bayern are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the 22nd time after their success against Lazio Rome.

They won the title in 2001, 2013 and 2020.

Dortmund faced PSV Eindhoven in the round of 16 and qualified for the round of eight for the eighth time; BVB triumphed in 1997.

The first legs of the quarter-finals will take place on April 9th and 10th and the second legs will take place a week later on April 16th and 17th.

The semi-finals are scheduled for April 30th, May 1st and May 7th and 8th.

The final will be played at Wembley Stadium in London on June 1st.

The streaming service Prime Video broadcasts one game live on Tuesday, the remaining matches can be seen on Dazn.

Each club receives 10.6 million euros for reaching the quarter-finals.

Bayern, for example, have already secured 86 million in UEFA bonuses.

Participation in the semi-finals would bring in a further 12.5 million euros.

Victory in the Wembley final would be rewarded with 20 million euros, the losing finalist would receive 15.5 million.

From a German perspective, it is also about a fifth Champions League starting place in the coming 2024/2025 season, when the competition will have four more participants.

Two of the new starting places will be awarded to the countries that perform best in the international competitions in the current season.

Germany is currently in second place in the season rankings, but is in danger of being overtaken by England.
