A 34-year-old mountaineer, a neighbor of San Sebastián, has died this Friday when he slipped on the ice and plummeted about 140 meters in a vacuum at Curavacas peak, in the municipality of Triollo, on the Palentina Mountain.

The accident occurred about 11 am this morning when one of the companions has alerted the Emergency Service 1-1-2 that his partner had slipped because of the ice and had rushed into the void, as reported by the Subdelegation of Government in Palencia.

Finally, the 1-1-2 of Cantabria was involved in the rescue that was in the area doing some practices, although the helicopter of the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (Greim) of the Civil Guard had also been activated.

As reported by the emergency services of the Cantabrian Government in a statement, the notice has been received at 11.45 am and the helicopter has taken ten minutes to reach the area.

First he has rescued the companion of the deceased, who was in shock, and then began the search for the other mountaineer.

Once located in a snowy area with a steep slope, members of the Greim have tried to recover the body, without obtaining it by being the body in a difficult place to access.

For this reason, the intervention of the helicopter team of the Government of Cantabria has been requested, which has recovered the body and transferred it to Triollo (Palencia), where it has been available to Civil Guard agents.
