31-year-old Lomatjenko is considered by most to be the world's best boxer regardless of weight class, but has not really reached international star status among the wide masses.

As an amateur he won double Olympic gold (2008 and 2012) and had an incredible feat with 396 wins in 397 matches. The only boxer he lost to (in a World Cup final) he then defeated twice.

In 2013 he went on to become a professional and already in his second match (!) He challenged for a world champion belt. At that time, he lost, but the first World Cup title came in match number three, which is a tangible record for the least number of professional matches before winning a World Cup title.

Floored Campbell in round eleven

Since then, Lomatjenko has climbed the weight classes, won new world championship belts and humiliated several of his opponents with his dazzling footwork and speed. Tonight he defeated Englishman Luke Campbell, also a former Olympic gold medalist, on points in front of over 18,000 spectators at The O2 in London.

Lomatjenko floored Campbell in the eleventh round and eventually won a superior points victory with 119-108, 119-108 and 118-109. He defended his two master belts in lightweight (WBA and WBO) and also added the vacant WBC belt to his collection.

- This might be my tour spot. I like to be here and the British fans are the best in the world, says Lomatjenko afterwards, referring, among other things, to his winning Olympic gold in London 2012.

"Once per lifetime"

Luke Campbell was taken to hospital after the match, as a precaution, but first commented:

- He is a special coward and I knew that already in advance. I'm disappointed with the loss, but this was Lomatjenko's evening, he says.

British coach Shane McGuigan also praised the Ukrainian.

- You can't prepare for him. This type of boxer is only seen once per lifetime.

Vasyl Lomatjenko now has 14-1 in fact (10 knockouts) since his professional debut in 2013. For Campbell, it was the career's third loss in a total of 23 games.
