Sick leave, divorce or a sharp loss of income – these are some of the most common reasons for applying to pause amortization. But with an increasingly tough economic situation with increased electricity prices and inflation, banks are seeing more and more people applying for a grace period.

More resources for managing applications

Several banks state that there has been an increase in people applying for an amortisation exemption recently.

– We are strengthening with resources in terms of applications. The majority have their application granted. There is a sharp increase in costs in society. Household margins have shrunk as a result," says Hannes Mård, press officer, Swedbank.

Länsförsäkringar Västerbotten is prepared for applications to increase further.

– We believe that there will be more people applying as tied loans mature. But it does not automatically mean that you get it, but more people who will ask the question, says Rikard Jacobsson.
