The events in Georgia are reminiscent of the Kiev Maidan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the Big Game program on Channel One.

“Very similar to the Kiev Maidan.

There is no doubt that the law on the registration of those non-governmental organizations that receive foreign funding in the amount of 20% of just their budget was just an excuse to start, in general, an attempt to change power by force, ”Lavrov emphasized. .

At the same time, the minister noted that the events are "orchestrated from the outside": "They have the same nature - this is the same desire to create an irritant on the borders of Russia."

In turn, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov noted that the situation, which served as a trigger for popular unrest in Georgia, has nothing to do with the Russian Federation.

“Russia has nothing to do with it in essence or form.

We do not interfere in internal Georgian affairs,” he said.

Peskov also drew attention to the emergence of risks of provocations against Abkhazia and South Ossetia against the backdrop of the situation in Georgia.

“At the same time, we see that someone’s hand ... You can’t say “invisible” - it is quite visible.

We see where the president of Georgia is addressing his people from, she is not addressing Georgians and Georgian women from Georgia, she is addressing from America.

And someone's "visible" hand is diligently trying to add anti-Russian elements here, ”added the official representative of the Kremlin.

Earlier, Peskov stressed that Moscow had nothing to do with the Georgian draft law on foreign agents, recalling that the United States became the pioneer in the practice of introducing such laws in the late 1930s.

Removal of the law

On Friday, March 10, members of the Georgian Parliament refused to take further action on the bills on foreign agents.

So, in the second reading on the draft law “On the transparency of foreign influence”, 35 deputies voted against the document, 58 abstained, and one more voted in favor.

At the same time, the second bill (the so-called American version) - "On the registration of foreign agents" - was withdrawn by representatives of the public movement "Power of the People".

The first document uses the term "agent of foreign influence" rather than "foreign agent".

At the same time, only the media and non-profit legal entities can fall under the status of “agent of foreign influence” - this is its difference from the second, American version, according to which, in addition to the media, all individuals and legal entities fall under the law.

“Many people think that the law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” should have been adopted, but for us, as a responsible political force, it is extremely important that society does not split and that the confrontation does not have any development prospects.

Proceeding from this, the decision made is correct and national,” said Gia Volsky, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, one of the leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party.

Recall that since March 7, protests have been held in Tbilisi, developing into large-scale clashes between demonstrators and policemen.

So, RT correspondent Don Korter reported from the scene that the protesters tried to throw firecrackers into the windows of parliament, and also broke street benches and built barricades out of them.

Security forces used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters.

According to the latest data, 58 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia were injured, 133 people were detained.

As political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev said in a conversation with RT, the withdrawal of the resonant bill "will not be able to affect the developing events in any way," since they are only a reason for protests.

“There are specific customers of these actions who do not even hide it.

Their goal is to sever relations with Russia,” the expert said.

- Now there will be hints that ideal circumstances have developed in order to return by military means the regions lost to Tbilisi - Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Georgia will be pushed to open a second front against Russia in the Caucasus, and to help completely isolate Armenia from Russia.”

In turn, Andrey Areshev, an expert on the North Caucasus, also believes that the situation may become more radical.

“Moreover, radicalize at the behest of foreign puppeteers.

We see that Zelensky has already supported the Georgian protesters.

By and large, everything will depend on whether the West considers the goals of the unrest to be achieved or continue to put pressure on them, ”the RT interlocutor emphasized.

In his opinion, external forces will try to exacerbate relations between Moscow and Tbilisi, given the well-known unresolved issues between the two countries: “It is difficult to say how much they will raise the degree and how far they will go.

Scenarios can be different, including the most severe.
