Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, which is suffering from sluggish earnings amid concerns about an economic downturn, has stopped hiring new technical positions at its headquarters.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on the 3rd (local time) that Amazon's Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Technology, Beth Galletti, sent a letter to employees stating this policy.

According to the WSJ, Amazon's job cuts are likely to include tech professions such as software development at its headquarters.

However, it is known that Amazon's hiring cessation policy does not apply to distribution centers spread across the United States.

Amazon is ramping up its distribution centers ahead of the holiday shopping season.

Amazon plans to review the economy over the next few months before deciding whether to resume hiring.

Amazon, one of the largest employers in the private sector in the United States, made this decision because recent economic conditions are negatively affecting its business.

"We are faced with an unusual macroeconomic environment," Galletti said in the letter.

In particular, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, chairman of the board of directors, recently expressed a sense of crisis in an interview with CNBC, an economic media outlet, saying, "We must be fully prepared" in relation to the economic situation.

In fact, Amazon's third-quarter sales fell short of market expectations, and its fourth-quarter sales are expected to fall far short of market expectations.
