The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children provides support and care for women and children who are victims of violence, who have been subjected to physical, verbal and moral abuse.

It helps them by providing temporary shelter, which includes all daily necessities and needs, including food and clothing, in addition to providing psychological, social and health support.

In dealing with the victims, the Foundation faces major challenges, which it is keen to address in order to support, protect and rehabilitate them, most notably ensuring their safe return to their country, and providing channels for follow-up after the end of their rehabilitation period.

Acting Director General of the Foundation, Sheikha Saeed Al-Mansoori, told "Emirates Today" that the most important challenges facing the Foundation in its work are securing the victim's safe voluntary return to her country, after obtaining the required care, as the victim often refuses to return to her country, as a result of fear of Being attacked again, or living under deprivation and harsh conditions, while the institution cannot continue to accommodate cases after the end of the rehabilitation treatment period.

Al-Mansoori added that "the institution cannot, well, continue to reserve a place for the cases that received treatment, because this represents a burden on them in terms of cost, and the provision of qualified staff for rehabilitation and treatment, and it also deprives other cases that need shelter and receive treatment."

She explained that the Foundation undertakes the completion of official procedures related to the victims, in coordination with embassies and consulates, and communicates with the competent authorities in their countries, to ensure that they are not subjected to abuse after their return.

It is also keen to help them to continue their lives in a stable manner.

As for the second challenge, Al-Mansoori stated that it “is related to the protection of cases that face a threat to their safety, and there are no guarantees to protect them in the event of return to their countries, which requires providing an alternative environment for the victim, and resettling her elsewhere, in cooperation with the relevant international bodies, such as the High Commissioner Refugee Affairs, and the International Organization for Migration.

She pointed to a third challenge related to the interruption of communication with cases whose treatment period ends, as “the rehabilitation system requires communication with them, ensuring the stability of their psychological and social condition, and reassurance that they will not be subjected to abuse, at a time when news of these cases is completely cut off, as a result of the difficult life conditions in which they live. In her country, such as the lack of means of communication, or because of her low financial capacity, which does not allow her to acquire the technical equipment required to complete the communication operations.”

Al-Mansoori pointed out that the Foundation provides shelter services to the victims in accordance with the application of the highest standards of health and safety, explaining that it includes providing healthy meals, personal care supplies, including clothing, health follow-up services inside the shelter housing, and supervision of the treatment prescriptions issued by the specialist doctor, adding that “The supervisory staff is distinguished by its professionalism in dealing with customers.”

She added that the institution's social services department is specialized in managing cases of victims of violence, women and children, through case managers who work with a number of medical, educational, legal, and other relevant authorities to achieve social support for customers.

It is noteworthy that the Foundation provides many services to rescue victims of violence, including psychological and social support, as well as representing victims before the courts to obtain their legal rights.

It also provides specialized services that are comprehensive and professional, according to the highest standards of professional work in the world, and all services are free of charge.
