Etihad Rail, the developer and operator of the national railway network in the United Arab Emirates, announced the completion of the connection of the Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD) freight station, the largest railway freight station in the country, to the UAE national railway network.

The company has completed the laying of railway tracks for the track that extends from the UAE border with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to the port of Fujairah on the eastern coast, passing through the most important major cities and industrial and commercial centers.

The connection process was completed by the construction of rail bridges crisscrossing the Ghuwaifat International Road, the railway tracks were installed and the tests of the new track were successfully conducted.

This achievement comes in line with the objectives of the "National Railways Program", the largest land transport system of its kind at the state level, which aims to connect the various cities of the country via railways and accelerate comprehensive development.

Upon completion of the construction work of the second phase of the Etihad Rail project and once it is operational, the freight trains will provide logistical support services from the ICAD railway freight station in the heart of Abu Dhabi Industrial City, which is a major hub for industrial companies in the region.

The terminal will handle more than 20 million tons of general, bulk and container cargo annually.

The Executive Director of the Rail Affairs Sector at Etihad Rail, Mohamed Al Marzouqi, said, "The completion of the track that connects the railway freight station in Abu Dhabi Industrial City (ICAD) with the main line of the Etihad Rail, puts us in a position of readiness to start logistical support operations for our customers by linking the capital. Abu Dhabi with various industrial centers and export points to transport goods to their destinations at the state level, in a new exceptional step that brings us closer to providing an integrated transport network that combines industrial and production centers inside and outside the industrial areas with shipping stations and ports in the various emirates of the country among themselves, thus achieving a qualitative leap In the transport system, based on the importance of the strategic location that ICAD enjoys, as it is integrated with the largest internal railway freight station in the country.”

Al-Marzouqi added: “We are proud of achieving this achievement, which supports our efforts to encourage many companies to restructure their logistics operations and benefit from the railways by reducing their costs, raising their efficiency and transporting their goods in a safer way, which was translated by the commercial agreements we concluded with a group of companies in the country such as the company Stephen Rock, Western Baynouna Group, and Al Ghurair Iron and Steel, which will reflect positively on the end user, and contribute to alleviating pressure on roads and maintenance costs, thus keeping pace with the sustainable economic development witnessed by the country in various fields, and contributing to providing promising economic opportunities that include the sectors of industry, trade and the environment. and others.”

Etihad Rail is working to build the country's largest internal railway freight station in Abu Dhabi Industrial City, on an area of ​​more than 2.7 million square feet, which will include more than 22 buildings to support operations and run about nine trains per day.

The cargo station will contribute to facilitating the transportation and distribution of goods between different parts of the UAE and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as it will link quarries in the northern Emirates with the industrial centers in the Musaffah region, as well as linking Ruwais, Khalifa Port and container handling companies in Dubai within Jebel Ali Port.

The cargo terminal serves as a logistics hub for heavy industries, ensuring smooth delivery of raw materials and machinery to manufacturers, as well as facilitating access to essential commercial infrastructure, such as ports.

The station will also provide customs services, which will enhance the competitive capabilities of tenants in Abu Dhabi Industrial City.

The cargo station will provide its services around the clock, providing a range of competitive advantages for companies, in addition to the highest levels of efficiency, cost-effectiveness and sustainability in transportation, as it has the capacity to transport about 15 million tons of bulk raw materials, and 1.5 million tons of cargo. of various types, and about 116,000 shipping containers measuring 20 feet annually.
