The death related to monkeypox, which continues to spread worldwide, has been confirmed for the first time in Brazil, South America, and health authorities are increasing their vigilance.

Brazil's Ministry of Health announced on the 29th that a 41-year-old man infected with monkeypox died in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais.



The man had a weakened immune system due to blood cancer and was hospitalized for treatment, and the local state government said he died on the 28th.



This is the first monkeypox-related death in Brazil.



Regarding monkeypox, the WHO = World Health Organization has announced that more than 18,000 infected people have been confirmed in 78 countries so far, and five people have died in Africa.



According to the CDC = United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 696 people have been infected in Brazil as of the 28th of this month, and Brazilian health authorities have set up an emergency response team of experts to monitor the infection status.
