A year ago, the Metropolitan Police Department arrested two male suspects in their 20s on suspicion of assault causing death in Shibuya, Tokyo, after assaulting a 41-year-old man to death.

The two people arrested were Garrard John David (22), a Filipino national and a plumber from Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, and Kei Okuma (22), an unemployed man from Chiba City.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the two men assaulted Shoichi Takeuchi (41 at the time), an unemployed man from Nerima Ward, Tokyo, by punching and kicking him multiple times in the face and head, as they passed each other on the street in Dogenzaka, Shibuya Ward, in October last year, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. He is suspected of causing death by manslaughter.

Mr. Takeuchi did not want to be taken to the hospital at the time, but his condition worsened and he passed away about three weeks later.

The Metropolitan Police Department was searching for the suspects who had left the scene, and the two were identified after the assault was captured on nearby security cameras.

The two men were not acquainted with Takeuchi, and upon investigation they admitted to the charges and made statements such as, ``I had been drinking and I got mad and did it.''
