The fire has taken hold in the facade of an apartment building in Talltorp in eastern Västerås and has also gone up to the roof.
The rescue service considers it a major incident and is on site with at least six units.
- The alarm comes in at 19.34 and it unfortunately seems that the fire is spreading, says Per Bjurström, duty officer at police region Mitt.
Five of the seven homes in the length are to be affected and the fire may have started in a gas tank on a terrace.
At a quarter to eleven, the extinguishing work is still going on with undiminished strength, all units are left but no further reinforcement is needed.
- It burns for about 40 meters of the 60-meter length, but we have not given it up yet but are still spraying water, states SOS Alarm.
Surrounding buildings were also sprayed to minimize the risk of spreading.
The terraced house has been evacuated and no one has been injured.
The police keep the curious at a distance and direct away the traffic.
According to SOS Alarm, the extinguishing work will continue throughout the night.
