Düsseldorf (AP) - hosts Borussia Düsseldorf and the German champions 1. FC Saarbrücken have qualified ahead of time for the quarter-finals of the table tennis Champions League.

In the tournament format in Düsseldorf's Arag CenterCourt, Timo Boll's team also won their second preliminary round match against GV Hennebont from France with 3-0 on Saturday.

The Saarlanders also managed to win their second game in a 3-0 win against the Danish club Roskilde Bordtennis.

The German national player Patrick Franziska beat the former European champion Michael Maze in 3-1 sets.

Bundesliga rivals Post SV Mühlhausen can also hope for a place in the knockout round after their opening defeat against tournament favorites Fakel Orenburg.

The Thuringians defeated the Spanish club Leka Enea 3-0 and now have a final on Sunday for second place in the group against Bogoria Grodzisk from Poland.

Because of the corona pandemic, the Champions League season will be played as a tournament in just eight days in Düsseldorf instead of several months.

15 teams take part.

The first two in each preliminary round group will reach the quarter-finals.
